My Experience with the
Hewlett Packard Pavilion

All About their Customer Service
Actually LACK of Customer Service
and Their Product Tattooing

Vas Gardiakos

Exorcize the Hewlett Packard Pavilion
from the Proprietary Demons
and live happily thereafter!

I begged the HP Customer Service to help me
with this matter but they refused to assist.

This page will become visible to Google and Yahoo shortly

Soon Google and Yahoo will index this page and it will be visited to all that search: HP, Hewlett Packard, customer service, branding, tattooing, forum, quality, service, third party, hard drive, SSD, partitions, clone, ghost, bootable, recover, BIOS, RAM, Vista, WXP, laptop, notebook, forums, blogs, reviews, opinions, comments etc.

Let me Summarize my Grievances with Hewlett Packard:

ONE.
They have it rigged so you cannot clone (or ghost) your operating system to another drive or partition. my set up requaires a dual boot set up. My purchase was made on the assumption that my DV7T laptop was not in any way deficient or limited or restricted.

TWO
Unfortunately in addition to the cloning problem if I wanted to use the Recover file I am not given a choice what partition to Recover to. I can only Recover to the original C partition. I am restricted from Recovering to my other internal (not HP factory installed) 320 GB Fujitsu SATA 2 HDD. Later I removed the Fujitsu and installed a 64 GB SSD SATA 2 disk with no better outcome.

THREE
Later I also tried to install WXP on my Fijutsu HDD and repeatedly got the blue screen. So it seems you have somehow rigged things so I cannot even install WXP. I bought the DV7T on the assumption that it would not be in any way lacking or restricted. Perhaps if I purchase a Vista OS Full Version locally (not from HP) on a disk will I have similar problem installing it as I had with WXP?

FOUR
I did more research and it seems that there is such a thing called Tatooing. Does HP employ such a unscrupulous technique? I asked them to deny this but they have not done so.

FIVE
So can I upgrade using a Vista Upgrade version or do I need to buy the Full version? They gave me two opposing opinions n this subject. What I need to see in black and white “yes, you can upgrade your DV7T installed HP OEM Vista with a Vista upgrade version rather than having to buy the Vista full version purchased from any store of my choosing (not HP). They could not or would not do this.

SIX
A response said “… you can boot only through the disk0 and the disk 1is only to take the back up of the data.” Pleases show me where in the manual it says this. I never heard of a drive being restricted to data only.

Seven
As it turns out the Restore file is not an image of the C drive but some kind of hybrid.

I finally received " I have forwarded your request to the supervisor with high priority. " Did the supervisor contact me? NOOOOO!!!

It's fraud. They lied by not disclosing crucial information. If I was aware with this crucial information I would not have bought this computer. So it pays for them to lie, that is until they met me. They get away with it most of the time. This time it's a different story.

And when they failed to help I slow escalated the price that they must pay. I expect I will not get any help from HP Customer Service so I am extremely disappointed. Hopefully the price they pay in the end will help every one else.

I recommend that you look at Dell, Toshiba, Acer, and Asus for your laptop needs.

An Open letter to:

Mark Hurd,
HP Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President

Dear Mr. Hurd,

You may not be aware what goes on in your Customer Service Dept. My repeated attempt to get help have been ignored. See the correspondence below and you will discover how poorly my case was mishandled.

Not sure how many sales you will loose from this very visible page. It could be 50, 100, 1000 or maybe even ten thousand. My loss now is also your loss. I will shortly add this to my other websites. I will not stop until I get results.

Mr. Hurd, You see the finished page now but prior to this it was blank with Where do I start... So your Customer Service had plenty of time to avoid this expose on Hewlett Packard Costumer Service and products, specifically the Pavilion notebook.

FYI this page was published on 4-15-09 I believe. Your people were given every opportunity to help me and thus avoid this painful and embarrassing and customer losing page.

sincerely,

Vas Gardiakos

Class action Lawsuit? Not a bad idea.

one. When you promise customer service and they do not help that is fraud.

two. When you make the computer in away that prevent you to freely add third party software and hardware that is fraud. It is fraud because you omitted critical information.

So let do it!

Below is the complete transcript of my correspondence.
Note the lack of interest in helping me. They reply but somehow always manage not to answer my questions. How inept is that?

Hello Steve,

You are making a case for me. Another email with promise to help yet no help is offered.
Did you read any of the original messages? Or am I in the “dead end” department?

It has been over 21 days so I need you to authorize the return if I so choose to do so.
In any case it is a 21 day money back guarantee. That is unless there is a lie.
I was also told that I can use third party hard drives without any problem. Did they lie?

Fraud has no legal limits on returns. But I don’t want to get legal here.
You know what is right and what is wrong. So do the right thing and authorize the return so at least I will have the option.

Let me propose this again. If I ask this:
I want to return the computer for a full refund.
Also send me a $600 check or credit my Visa for all the trouble you have put me through. This figure really should be much higher.
An apology will also be appreciated.

How soon can it happen? The answer will help me decide.

Steve, now you have three websites that cover this debacle.
This is the newer one. It is nicer than the first and second. Check it out. I highly recommend that you show it to your supervisor.
Apparently it has not sunk into your head that you are losing money following your course of action.  Yes I am losing too but you are losing big time.

These are not just different pages but different domain names. Get it?

Hello Please give this message personally to your supervisor,

Thank for the prompt reply.

From the previous email:

Julie said:

At this point I would like to inform you that it is not possible to make the partition with the recovery disk of your notebook.

The recovery disk (Why assume I have one, I do not) does not make the partition of my notebook. Do you know what a Recovery disk is? In any case none of my questions referred to it.

However, as said in the previous email as the recovery partition files will not allow to perform the clone.

Apparently the Recovery file can only be used recover he original installation to the original C drive. The way it is normally done is open Recovery (or restore) Manager (or the like), select the Recovery file and point to the destination partition. That simple! Read my message on this subject. Read also the PS comment. Thank you.

+++++++++++++++++++++

For the time being I prefer to communicate by email. So again I am requesting Please give this message personally to your supervisor. In the five communications we have solved only one issue.

I am again for the third time including my the identical message. You have shown very little interest in helping me. You callous attitude has led me to take action on my own and I will not cease until I get results. See what I mean. http://www.artmusicdance.com/vasetc/hewlettpackardpavilion.htm . I have several websites to comment on HP customer service and products. Then there are forums, blogs, myspace, facebook, Craigslist. If you have any pride in your company this may hurt. If not then both of are in trouble.

Please, let try this again:

ONE.
Cloning the OS is a common practice. It is done from partition to partition or drive to drive without any intermediary steps. I am not allowed to do this apparently due to some action on the part of HP. My purchase was made on the assumption that my DV7T laptop was not in any way deficient or limited or restricted. I do not need to jump through hoops to do what I normally do very quickly and efficiently on my other computers.

Unfortunately in addition to the cloning problem if I wanted to use the Recover file I am not given a choice what partition to Recover to. I can only Recover to the original C partition. I am  restricted from Recovering to my internal 320 GB Fujitsu SATA 2 HDD. I removed the Fujitsu and installed a 64 GB SSD SATA 2 disk with no better outcome.

Later I also tried to install WXP on my Fijutsu HDD and repeatedly got the blue screen. So it seems you have somehow rigged things so I cannot even install WXP. I bought the DV7T on the assumption that it would not be in any way lacking or restricted. This is a good time to ask, if I purchase a Vista OS Full Version locally (not from HP) on a disk will I have similar problem installing it as I had with WXP?

I did more research and it seems that there is such a thing called Tatooing. Does HP employ such a practice? Send me a credible link saying that you do not make use of such or similar unscrupulous techniques. In other words prove to me that you do not employ any method that prevents me from using third party hardware and software. Please do this for me.

TWO

You said: “Regarding the upgrade process you can upgrade the operating system to Vista Ultimate 64 bit Upgrade as your notebook is already bundled with 64 bit operating system.”

Marena said:

“Secondly, I would like to inform you that your notebook was bundled with OEM version Windows Vista Operating System and to upgrade the OS to Vista Ultimate 64, then you need to purchase a retail version of Vista Ultimate 64 bit version Operating System discs and perform a clean installation of OS in the notebook. You can install any retail version of Vista Operating System in the notebook using the retail version OS discs. “

So I can upgrade using a Vista Upgrade version or do I need to buy the Vista Full version? Point to an official link so I can decide what is true. Please, what I want to see in black and white “yes, you can upgrade your DV7T installed HP OEM Vista with a Vista upgrade version rather than having to buy the Vista full version purchased from any store of my choosing (not HP). I would appreciate the clarity and how it is accomplished step by step.

THREE

You said

“… you can boot only through the disk0 and the disk 1 is only to take the back up of the data.” Pleases show me where in the manual it says this. I never heard of a drive being restricted to data only.

I have wasted on month researching and trying to do what would take me several hours to do on any of my other computers. What restriction are there for me here on the DV7T. Please tell me so that I do not spend another month then to find out what restrictions there are.

Let’s resolve all the issues with the next reply. I really will appreciate it very much. These are very simple issues so please resolve them. If not, the alternative is to return my otherwise very desirable DV7T for a refund. This purchase has turned into a real unpleasant fiasco but I feel it is not too late to turn it around! The issues are few though very important and the alternative not desirable by me and probably not by you either. So let’s resolve all the issues with your next reply.

I belong to the 800 member strong Tamps Bay Computer Society. http://www.tampa-bay.org/default.htm . What should I tell them about your products and service?

Thanks in advance.

Vas

PS. Just as I finished this email I did one more check on Recovery. I recently added a partition right after C on the original HDD, and am not sure if this has anything (it shouldn’t) to do with my/your/our following problem. I went to do a System Recovery just to make sure all is ok. > next and got “This system does not have a recovery partition. The Recovery partition is where it has always been. I checked the file “Recovery” is still there. Now what? I have recovered from file before in other computers without a hitch. So why a problem here? How can it be fixed?

RE: RE: RE: HP Pavilion dv7t-1200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC e-mail support

Hello Andrix,

Thankfor the prompt reply. Please give this message personally to your supervisor.

ONE.
Cloning the OS is a common practice. It is done from partition to partition or drive to drive without any intermediary steps. I am not

allowed to do this apparently due to some action on the part of HP. My purchase was made on the assumption that my DV7T laptop was

not in any way deficient or limited or restricted. I do not need to jump through hoops to do what I normally do very quickly and

efficiently on my other computers.

Unfortunately in addition to the cloning problem if I wanted to use the Recover file I am not given a choice what partition to Recover

to. I can only Recover to the original C partition. I am restrictedfrom Recovering to my internal 320 GB Fujitsu SATA 2 HDD. I

removed the Fujitsu and installed a 64 GB SSD SATA 2 disk with no better outcome.

Later I also tried to install WXP on my Fijutsu HDD and repeatedly got the blue screen. So it seems you have somehow rigged things so

I cannot even install WXP. I bought the DV7T on the assumption that it would not be in any way lacking or restricted. This is a good

time to ask, if I purchase a Vista OS Full Version locally (not from HP) on a disk will I have similar problem installing itas I had with

WXP?

I did more research and it seems that there is such a thing called Tatooing. Does HP employ such a practice? Send me a credible link

saying that you do not make use of such or similar unscrupulous techniques. In other words prove to me that you do not employ any

method that prevents me from using third party hardware and software. Please do this for me.

TWO

You said:

“Regarding the upgrade process you can upgrade the operating system to Vista Ultimate 64 bit Upgrade as your notebook is already

bundled with 64 bit operating system.”

Marena said:

“Secondly, I would like to inform you that your notebook was bundled with OEM version Windows Vista Operating System and to

upgrade the OS to Vista Ultimate 64, then you need to purchase a retail version of Vista Ultimate 64 bit version Operating System

discs and perform a clean installation of OS in the notebook. You can install any retail version of Vista Operating System in the

notebook using the retail version OS discs. “

So I can upgrade using a Vista Upgrade version or do I need to buy the Full version? Point to an official link so I can decide what is

true. Please, what I want to see in black and white “yes, you can upgrade your DV7T installed HP OEM Vista with a Vista upgrade

version rather than having to buy the Vista full version purchased from any store of my choosing (not HP). I would appreciate the

clarity.

THREE

You said

“… you can boot onlythrough the disk0 and the disk 1is only to take the back up of the data.” Pleases show me where in the manual it says

this. I never heard of a drive being restricted to data only.

I have wasted on month researching and trying to do what would take me several hours to do on any of my other computers. What

restriction are there for me here on the DV7T. Please tell me so that I do not spend another month then to find out what restrictions

there are.

Let’s resolve all the issues with the next reply. I really will appreciateit very much. These are very simple issues so please resolve them.

If not, the alternative is to return my otherwise very desirable DV7T for a refund. This purchase has turned into a real unpleasant

fiasco but I feel itis not too late to turn it around! The issues are few though very important and the alternative not desirable by me

and probably not by you either. So let’s resolve all the issues with your next reply.

I belong to the 800 member strong Tamps BayComputer Society. http://www.tampa-bay.org/default.htm . What should I tell them

about your products and service?

Thanks in advance.

PS. Just as I finished this email I did one more check on Recovery. I recently added a partition right after C on the original HDD, and

am not sure if this has anything to do with my/your/our following problem. I went to do a System Recovery just to make sure all is ok. >

next and got “This system does not have a recovery partition. The Recovery partition is where it has always been. I checked the file

“Recovery” is still there. Now what? I have recovered from file before in other computers without a hitch. So why a problem here? How

can it be fixed?

Hello Vas,

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.

I understand that you are unable to clone the C drive of your notebook.

Vas, let me share with you that as the recovery partition files will not allow to perform the clone option, to clone the C drive you need to

first perform the recovery option with the help of the recovery discs then delete the recovery partition and then clone the C drive.

Regarding the upgrade process you can upgrade the operating system to Vista Ultimate 64 bit Upgrade as your notebook is already

bundled with 64 bit operating system.

Regarding the BIOS of the notebook it is not possible to upgrade the BIOS of the notebook and you can boot only through the disk0

and the disk 1 is only to take the back up of the data.

This information should help you. If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you .I would

like to add that we value your precious time and would be here round the clock to assist you.

Sincerely,

Andrix

Hello Marena,

Thanks for offering your assistance. Please lets review the questions.

ONE. Computer owners often add partition and hard drives to their computer. I cloned my original C drive to a new internal 320 GB

Fujitsu SATA 2 HDD and it would not boot. Then I cloned my C drive to a new internal pqi 64 GB SSD SATA 2 disk and again it would

not boot.

I also attempted to do a system recovery to my Fujitsubut was not given the option to do so. I can only recover to the original C drive.

Has HP intentionally done this to prevent me from restoring to another drive inside the computer. Note the Fujitsu is not an external

drive. If HP has not intentionally done this to prevent me from restoring to another internal drive then please tellme the work around.

TWO. To understand I do not have upgrade privileges with bundled with OEM version Windows Vista Operating System. The Vista

Ultimate 64 bit Upgrade version will not work, correct?

Let’s say I purchase a new Vista OS (not the upgrade) from another vendor. Let’s say I delete your factory installed Vista Home

Premium. Will I have any problem installing this new Vista Home Premium (or Ultimate) in my DV7T laptop? Is there anything in the

BIOS or hidden in the hard drive that will continue to give me problems with cloning?

THREE. Both the original and the newly added Fujitsu drive are internal. The BIOS does not allow me to choose to boot from disk0 or

disk 1. This is the first time I have seen a BIOS that lacks this choice. Is this a limited BIOS installed HP laptops? Is there an update

with a BIOS or a full versions that allows me to do so? If not I am very disappointed. You can ask any knowledgeable technician and

they will tellthis is idiotic.

I did some more research beyond Belarc:

It is likely the Compal 30F4 99.95 Mainboard is OEM manufactured for HP

Bios F.25 must be made special for HP.

What restriction are there for me here. Please tell me so that I do not spend another month then to find out what restrictions there are.

FOUR. Thanks for the Belarc suggestion and link.

Thanks in advance.

Vas

recovery using the recovery discs when you install a new hard drive in the notebook.
